Quran Chapter 4- 77b & 78a (Pt-5, Stg-1) (L-571) - درس قرآن

The provision of this world is very little

Surah ‘An-Nisaaa’  (Women) – Chapter – 4)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

77b.  Say (unto them, O Muhammad): The provision of this world is very little; the Hereafter will be better for him who wardeth off (evil); and ye will not be wronged the husk upon a date-stone.

78a.  Wheresoever ye may be, death will overtake you, even though ye were in lofty towers.
77b.  Qul  mataa- ‘uddunyaa  qaliil. Wal- ‘aakhiratu  khayrul-li-manittaqaa  wa laa  tuzlamuuna  fatiilaa.

78a.  ‘Ayna  maa  takuunuu  yud-rik-kumul-mawtu  wa  law  kuntum  fii  buruujim-mushayyadah.

Commentary

Mataa-‘un – (benefit, wealth, the provision; by which one may reap advantage and enjoy.

Wa laa  tuzlamuuna – (and you will not be wronged), it has been derived from zalama, which means ‘to tease or tyrannize any person, to seize someone’s right ’.

Fatiilaa – (the thread, the husk upon a date-stone), here it means that your right will not be seized even equal to a very little piece of thread.

Buruujim-mushayyadah – (the lofty towers, dignified forts), Burj is singular of buruuj which means ‘a fort and a magnificent palace’. Mushayyada means ‘made of cooked lime’. The aim of this verse is to tell the people that it is not possible to escape from the death, whether they hide themselves in even very solid forts.

It was mentioned in the previous part of the verses (77a) that when Jihad was prescribed and the battle accessed their heads, then some people began to tremble due to fear of war and beseech in the Royal Court of Allah Almighty, “Our Lord! Why have You commanded us to fight? If only You would have given us respite yet a while, then it was better, if we would have remained living for some more days and be saved from the death”. In short, the love of the world overcame upon their hearts and they began to fear from death. They have been instructed in this verse that, “Say {unto them, O Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him)}: The provision (relishes and pleasure) of this world is very little and only for a few days; nevertheless delight and comfort of the Hereafter will be better for him who takes care of the Will of Allah Almighty and wards off evil. Commit to your mind! The person, who will do good with such thought, he will be given full retaliation and reward. Moreover, effort of any person to please Allah Almighty and to escape from His disobedience will not be useless; even that none will be wronged equal to the husk upon a date-stone. In the world, such circumstances are faced that a person wants something but his desire is not fulfilled. He works hard but does not gain its fruit. In addition, whatever he gets a little; that is finished in a few days. For the Hereafter, what will be done according to the command of Allah Almighty, its retaliation will be given in full. That will not be for a few day but forever. Now about the death, so none should be afraid of it. Nobody can be saved from it. There is no place in the entire world, where someone can acquire refuge. At last, he/she has to die a day, who has come in this world. It is useless to have passion to live forever in the world. If someone did not die today, he will die tomorrow. Strong underground chambers, lofty forts and palaces cannot save any creature from the death. It is better to be slain for the Cause of Allah Almighty and earn comfort, pleasure and satisfaction for ever, from dying by rubbing heels. In these some words of Holy Qur’an, how much great reality has been explained very easily? This advice cannot take place in the heart so deeply even from the hourly speeches of great preachers as it settles down by meditating a while in this very small verse. These are the forceful words, by listening to which, the Muslims completed so much magnificent tasks in the beginning that the world praises them till today.

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

77a.  Hast thou not seen those unto whom it was said: Withhold your hands, establish worship and pay the poor-due, but when fighting was prescribed for them behold! a party of them fear mankind as though it were fear of Allah or with greater fear, and say: Our Lord! Why hast Thou ordained fighting for us? If only Thou wouldst give us respite yet a while!
77a.  ‘Alam  tara  ‘ilal-laziina  qiila  lahum  kuffuuu’aydi-yakum  wa  ‘aqiimus-Salaata wa  ‘aatuz-Zakaah.  Falammaa  kutiba  ‘alay-himul-qitaalu  ‘izaa  farii-qum-minhum  yakh-shaw-nan-naasa  ka-khashya-Tillaahi  ‘aw  ‘ashadda  khashyah.  Wa    qaaluu  Rabbanaa  lima  katabta  ‘alaynal-qitaal.  Law-laaa  ‘akh-Khartanaaa  ‘ilaaa  ‘ajalin- qariib.

Commentary

Kutiba  ‘alay-him – (prescribed for them),it has been described earlier that if the word ‘alaa comes before the word katab, then it will be meant “to fix, to prescribe, to adjudge”.

‘Izaa – generally it means “when”. It also means “suddenly, all at once, abruptly etc.” it is used at such occasions, where something happens which was not expected.

‘Akh-Kharta – (giving respite, to delay, to keep giving up), the words taakhiir and mu-‘akhkhir have also been derived from it which means postponement, posterior respectively.

When the people embraced Islam in Makkah, the infidels and idolaters began to vex and tyrannize them by various sorts. Due to this strait-ness, the Muslims used to come to the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) and say that they should be permitted to strive, but they were replied that they had not still been permitted to fight. Till then; there was only command to establish worship and pay the poor-due from the wealth. It has been described in this verse that when the permission was given to fight after flight (Hijrat) from Makkah to Madinah, then terror overcastted upon the persons, who were weak in their Belief. They began to tremble due to fear and were frightened from the people (the creature), more than the fear of Allah Almighty (the Creator). They began to say, “Our Lord! Why have You ordained fighting for us? If only You would have given us respite still a while, then it were better”. In Makkah, the Muslims were not permitted to fight but they were being prepared for war, because it was not acceptable to take revenge from the oppressors immediately. Such fight like savages was not acceptable to Islam. Therefore, the Muslims were commanded in Makkah that they should withhold their hands (for having patience from fighting), remain busy in establishing prayers and paying the poor-due, so that they might become habituated to sacrifice their life and wealth, and they might know, “How to bear the troubles and difficulties”.

Battle for the Cause of God - Quran Chapter 4-76 (Pt-5, Stg-1) (L-569) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 4- 76 (Pt-5, Stg-1) (L-569) - درس قرآن

Battle for the Cause of God

Surah ‘An-Nisaaa’  (Women) – Chapter – 4)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

76.  Those who believe do battle for the Cause of Allah, and those who disbelieve do battle for the cause of idols; so fight the minions of the devil. Lo! The devil’s strategy is ever weak.
76.  ‘Allaziina  ‘aamanuu  yuqaa-tiluuna  fiii  Sabii-Lillaah.  Wallaziina  kafaruu  yuqaa-tiluuna  fiii  Sabii-lit-Taaguuti  faqaa-tiluu  ‘aw-liyaaa-‘ash-Shaytaan.  ‘Inna  kaydash-Shaytaani  kaana  za-‘iifaa.

Commentary

‘Allaziina  ‘aamanuu  (The Believers), the word ‘aamanuu has been derived from ‘iimaan, which means ‘to accept by tongue and have belief in the heart. Only they are Believers, who believe in Allah Almighty, His Angels (peace be upon them), His Scripture including the last (Holy Qur’an), His Prophets and Messengers (peace be upon them) including the last Messenger Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) and the Day of Resurrection, and know it unchangeable that they will have to clear (after coming into life again) their accounts of deeds which they had done during their worldly life.

‘Allaziina  kafaruu – (the Disbelievers, Infidels and Idolaters), this word has been derived from kafara that means ‘to hide, to deny and not to thank’. Those are Infidels, who do not believe in the Principles of Islam and consider that the worldly life is the only life, and they say that ‘there will be nothing after it’. That is to say; they do not believe in the Hereafter.

Taaguuti  - this word has been derived from the word Tugyaan, which means ‘refractory, disobedient mischievous and wicked’. It is the title of Satan also, who tries always to mislead the humankind from the Straight Path.

Kaydun  (the strategy, the gait and the trap), as trick of the victory to be achieved by someone. ‘aw-liyaaa-‘u  - it is plural of Walii, which means ‘friends, supporters, helpers, minions, favorites, low flatterers’.

Allah Almighty has fixed a proper manner of living in this world for the mankind. The human being has not been left free entirely like the animals (that what they want may do), the name of this manner is ‘Siraatal Mustaqiim, the Straight Path and the True Religion’. It is the Sabii-Lillaah. At another place in the Holy Qur’an, it has also been called SiraatAllaah.

A secret Power, who is called with different names like Satan, the Devil, Taaguut, he has made up His mind to oppose the human being like enemy in each condition and he uses to try the humanity to mislead from the Correct and Straight Path, as far as it is possible for him. Alas! That a major quantity from the human beings has went astray from the Straight Way due to his deception and they do not listen to anyone due to following their own wishes.

The History is witness that many nations of human beings ruined, being entangled in these meshes and two Paths were set up permanently for the people. One Path is fixed by Allah Almighty, which has been called Sabii-Lillaah in the verse and the other is Path of Satan (Sabii-lit-Taaguuti).

It has been commanded in the verse that the Believers and obedient of Allah Almighty fight to support His Way. Moreover, those who disbelieve in Allah Almighty and disobey Him, they fight in the partisanship of the way of the Devil. Then it has been mentioned that apparently, the confederacies of Satan seem very frightful and strong, but in fact his strategy is weak and that has no reality before the matured intentions of the honest people.

Protecting friends for the feeble

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

75.  How should ye not fight for the Cause of Allah and of the feeble among men and of the women and the children who are saying: Our Lord! Deliver us from this town of which the people are oppressors! And give us from Thy presence some protecting friend! And, give us from Thy presence some defender.
75.  Wa  maa  lakum laa  tuqaa-tiluuna  fii  Sabii-Lillaahi  wal-mustaz-‘afiina  minar-rijaali  wan-nisaaa-‘i  wal-wildaanil-laziina  yaquu-luuna  Rabba-naaa  ‘akh-rij-naa  min    haazihil-qaryatiz-zaalimi  ‘ahluhaa.  Waj-‘al-lanaa  mil-la-dunka  waliy-yaa.  Waj-‘al-lanaa  milla-dunKa  nasiiraa.

Commentary

Yuqaa-tilu  fii  Sabii-Lillaahi  - (fought for the Cause of Allah), this sentence has come three times in these verses. The aim is to emphasize upon the matter that the battle should only be for the religion of Allah Almighty. He approves that none should prevent any other from going on the Way of Religion. The war is with them only who do not believe in the true religion themselves; as well as obstruct others too from acting upon the religious instructions.

It is understood that Jihad means ‘to be prepared for fighting against those people, who prevent the human beings from the straight path and want to make others their own harmonious by violence. Sign of those misled people is that they view only worldly advantages of their own and their companions, and wish to keep others pressed forcibly for their personal desires. They say, “We are superior to all other persons and they should remain our servants”.

Contrary to them, there are some such people, who like goodness for entire humankind and consider their gain in the gain of all other human beings. Neither they are proud nor haughty. They do not want to keep others under their influence. They deem necessary to help the poor, the needy and the feeble people, and there is neither any interest of their own in it, nor they think about any benefit. Rather their aim is only to save the creature of Allah Almighty from any disaster. They neither claim any gratitude from someone, nor desire any partiality/favor. These people believe truly in Allah Almighty and His religion.

Allah Almighty commands that while those men and women, little, elder and weak children of any inhabited place would be crying and screaming for help, defence and protection against the tyrants, who have made them oppressed, then what has happened with you that you do not go forth to help them? Moreover, why do you not grip up your loins for fighting against the oppressors?

Commentary

The command of Allah Almighty regarding preparation for Jihad and in this connection, behavior of the Hypocrites has been described in the previous verse. Allah Almighty has determined every Muslim as the Soldier of Islam and claimed that you should be ready every time to sacrifice your life in the Path of Truth. It is necessary for you to remain prepared in each condition for fighting in separate units or if there is a need of Jihad by all together. The Hypocrites will evade intentionally and prepensely, and try to refrain away from alliance in Jihad. If God forbid, you suffered, they will unfold their gladness. And if Allah Almighty bestowed His Bounty upon you, you attained victory and success, and returned with plenty of wealth, then they would surely cry and say like the strange people, as if there had been no love between you and them: Would that we had been with them (you), then we would have achieved booty, collected the riches and great success.

It is the precept of Allah Almighty that you should fight against those people in His Way, who give preference to the worldly life in retaliation of the Hereafter and like the world instead of the religion. You should not have any concern with victory or defeat, be slain or overcome. We shall bestow you a vast reward in both conditions.

Condition of hypocrites - Quran Chapter 4-71 & 72 (Pt-5, Stg-1)(L-566) -درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 4- 71 & 72 (Pt-5, Stg-1) (L-566) - درس قرآن

Condition of hypocrites

Surah ‘An-Nisaaa’  (Women) – Chapter – 4)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

71.  O ye who believe! Take your precautions, then move on as separate units, or advance all together.

72.  And lo! Among you there is he who loitereth; and if disaster overtook you, he would say: Allah hath been gracious unto me since I was not present with them.
71.  Yaaa-‘ayyu-hallaziina  ‘aa-manuu  khuzuu  hizrakum  fan-firuu  subaatin  ‘awinfiruu  jamii-‘aa.

72.  Wa  ‘inna  minkum lamalla-yubatti-‘ann.  Fa-‘in  ‘asaabat-kum-musii-batun-  qaala  qad  ‘an-‘amAllaahu  ‘a-layya  ‘iz  lam  ‘akum-ma-‘ahum  shahiidaa.

Commentary

Subaatin  - it is plural of sabat which means separate units and little groups.

Shahiidan – witness, being present (at a particular place) - There are some narrations about this verse that in the beginning, many people embraced Islam in imitation. When Jihad became their duty, they disobeyed and even that some of them began to oppose the religion obviously accompanying the infidels. This verse was revealed at such time.

Behavior of the hypocrites was mentioned in the previous verses. In this verse, their manner of acts at the time of Crusade (Jihad) has been discussed and the Muslims have been prevented to adopt the behavior like them. Islam likes very much that all people should live together with reconciliation and smoothness. But selfishness of the infidels compelled the Muslims to fight. Until the people will remain slaves of their wishes and turn their faces away from the Straight Path due to following and misguidance of Satan, the war may not be ended from the world. The servants of Allah Almighty would have to fight against these slaves of the wishes under compulsion.

The Believers have been directed with urgency in this verse that they should arrange for precautionary things to save themselves from the enemies of the humanity and remain dressed with warlike arms and equipment. When it becomes necessary, then you should move up as separate units, or advance all together to fight them. You should not loiter at that time, because sometimes it spoils due to delay at the time of the battle, and the enemy prospers.

Remember it that there are some such people among you, who practise delay at the rime of proceeding for Jihad and loiter intentionally. They are called hypocrites. Their leader was AbdUllah bin Ubaii. He had determined this way that whenever the Muslims used to go for fighting, he used to remain in the rear with his followers by evading. If the Muslims suffered any disaster or faced any defeat, he used to say, Thank God since I was not present with them. Otherwise, I would have died too. As though, this wrong subject had made room in his heart that he would remain safe at his home from the death and in the battlefield he would die before time.

Commentary

In this holy verse, Allah Almighty has described about His those glorious slaves who have been treated with the special kindness.

1.    An-Nabiy-yiina  - It is Plural of Nabii. Nabii means Prophet (peace be upon Him). Those Selected Servants of Allah Almighty, Who were sent in the world to deliver the Message of Allah Almighty to the human beings. This Message was sent unto the Prophets (peace be upon them) by Allah Almighty through an Angel (peace be upon Him), they used to feel the arrival of the Angel and transmit the Message to the humankind without any reduction or increase in it.

2.    ‘As-Siddii-qiina  - (the saints), plural of Siddiiq, which means ‘a faithful witness of the truth’. It is also a title of Prophet Joseph (peace be upon him) and Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) – the companion of last Messenger of Allah Almighty, Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him). ‘As-Siddii-qiina are those people, whose hearts accept the Messages of the Prophets as true naturally. They do not need any reason or proof.

3.    ‘Ash-Shuha-daaa-‘a  - (the martyrs), it is plural of Shahiid, these are the people, who are ready every time to sacrifice their lives upon the commands of Prophets (peace be upon them) and produce evidence of the truth with their own blood.

4.    ‘As-Saalihiina  - (the righteous people), it is plural of Saalih. These are such persons, whose nature is good innately and who have purified their souls and bodies from the evils, licentiousness, lewdness and impurities.

These four kinds of persons are excellent out of the entire human beings. Allah Almighty has bestowed them superiority and eminence upon all other people and comforted them with His Bounty.

The classification of their dignities is the same as it has been kept in the verse. That is to say, the Messengers and the Prophets (peace be upon them) have the highest ranks among the human beings. Junior to them is the degree of ‘As-Siddii-qiin. Then the rank of ‘Ash-Shuha-daaa-‘a - (the martyrs) comes after them. The last degree in this category is ‘As-Saalihiina - (the righteous people). These all persons are replete with the blessings, nobility and mercy of Allah Almighty according to their ranks. It has already been mentioned earlier that the human beings are not equal in accordance with their ability and qualifications. Excellent out of the remaining people (excluding the above-mentioned persons) are those, who remain busy in obedience of Allah Almighty and His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him). Fellow-ship of the Prophets (peace be upon them), the Saints, the Martyrs and the Righteous (may Allah be agreed upon them) will also become their fortune according to their degree, qualification and ability. It does not aim that they will become exactly like them, however, they will be counted into their servants and their relationship will be connected with them. It is a very big kindness that this relationship has been named as “a best of company”. Otherwise, it is a very greatness of luck too to be accepted as their servants.

We pray in our each prayer that we should be guided to go on the Straight Path, the Path of those who have been described above. Surah ‘Al-Faatihah (Chapter -1 “the Opening”) teaches us the lesson, “Show us the Straight Path, the Path of those whom Thou hast favoured”, “Not (the path) of those who earn Thine anger nor of those who go astray”. Company of these great people will be in those peoples’ luck, who will obey Allah Almighty and follow His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him).
