Commentary
Those persons are
not rightful to be forgiven in any condition, who (the criminals and the
sinners) have been described in the previous verses. However, Allah Almighty is
Forgiving and Merciful. To Him, if any sinner repents sincerely even after such
severe sins and rebels, and intends to adopt good conduct in future, then his
all sins are forgiven.
Allah Almighty has
kept room of repentance for them and they have been given respite that if they refrain
from the wickedness, leave the evildoing, choose the right path, then Allah
Almighty will bestow them forgiveness; ignoring their errors. This verse
manifests the Mercy of Allah Almighty.
There are many
causes of depravity. The human being goes astray in ignorance, bad company,
worldly love, improvidence, opposition, stubbornness etc, and does not think
about his deeds. He does not draw his attention to correct his conduct. But
when either he stumbles or hears any sound of advice from somewhere or he
meditates himself upon his own circumstances of life, then suddenly he
feels that he is going astray, repents upon previous deeds, is ashamed and
tries to finish his sins all at once. He wants to be pure from impureness
and sins, becomes attentive towards Allah Almighty, wishes to implore earnestly
and humbly before Allah Almighty for forgiveness by reproaching upon his
shortsightedness, and intends firm to adopt the path of virtue in future. Allah
Almighty accepts his repentance and covers him in His shadow of blessings. It
is the fortune of human being that Allah Almighty has kept space of repentance
for him and bestowed him respite to incline towards the goodness.
Contrarily, if no
one gains from this opportunity, then who else will be more wretched and
unlucky than him?
Tawbah – (Repentance), this word has been used in the Holy Qur’an many times. Literally, it means
to come back, to return and to consider. So it is commanded Tuubuu ‘ilaa
Baari-‘ikum (“return the attention to your God, and It gave the good
news that the people who recourse to Me). ‘A-tuubu ‘alayhi ( “I
become attentive towards him”).
First condition for repentance is that the person
should perceive about his errors, disclose shame, regret on it, and determine
to leave it and refrain from it. Allah Almighty accepts such repentance. He is
Forgiving and Merciful.
