Commentary
‘Atta-quu – (do
your duty, fear), it is from ‘ittaqaa, which has been derived
from waqaayah. Waqaayah means “defense, safety,
rescue”. ‘Ittaqaa – means “to be saved, to go afar off”. ‘Atta-qUllaaha –
means “Be saved from Allah; that is to say; “Do not do such works, which
are not liked by Him, be saved from His punishment” as often we say “Try to
remain away from Police”. It aims that someone should not do such works, which
are arrest-able. Nearness of Allah Almighty can be acquired by
pleasing Him. Translation of a part of that supplication, which is recited
after each “Azaan” (the Summons to Prayers) is, “Our Lord! Bestow upon
our Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) Wasiila (the
way of approach)”. It aims, “O God! Provide Wasiila (the opportunity of
Your nearness and propinquity) to Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace
be upon Him)”.
It has come in the Sayings of
Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) that the word Wasiilah is
a Place, which is nearest to Allah Almighty and that Place is special
for Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him). So every Muslim
has been taught that they should supplicate in this manner, “O Lord! Cause to
arrive Your Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) at the
Place, which You have determined for Him”. It is the declaration of this matter
that this person is a well-wisher of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and
peace be upon Him). What fortune of a person would be more than it that his
name is written in well-wishers of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and
peace be upon Him).
The punishment of those
robbers, swindlers, killers and mischievous people was told in the previous
section, who intend to fight against Allah Almighty and His Messenger
(grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), and they kill the servants
of Allah Almighty and snatch their property. In this verse, Muslims are
commanded that these are such deeds, from which you have to hate. You have
believed in Allah Almighty, so you should never do such a work, which
lets Allah Almighty be angry upon you and you are captured in
His grip. You should do always such acts, due to which you are bestowed with
the fortune of nearness of Allah Almighty. Whenever the worldly people want to
get the propinquity of kings and leaders of this world, then they perform such
deeds, by which they may become happy and they may become their confidential
fellows, then they will be having ease.
O believers! You should be
persevered for the pleasure of Allah Almighty so that you may become nearer to
Him. Whosoever will incline towards this perseverance and will be careful
always, that he must not do such a thing, due to which Allah Almighty
becomes angry, that person is successful. He will be saved from all hardships
and will remain happy. Besides this, there is no other way upon which someone
has any hope of success and pleasure.
